Nonna Tina’s is an Australian owned Italian Food startup that is based on the story of the late Concettina Ielo aka ‘Nonna Tina’.

Nonna Tina was born in 1935 in a Calabrian Village in the South of Italy, and was raised by an Orphanage after her father passed away at an early age.

In the 1960s Nonna Tina married an Italian man by the name of Tony Ielo. They eventually moved to Australia together in 1962 where they raised 8 beautiful children.

Family events were plentiful back in the day, and the large majority were hosted at the home of Nonna Tony and Tina.

Whilst there is nothing quite like a large Italian family gathering, it was always the food that stole the show, with every last bite tasting a little more like a piece of Italy.

The Company was founded in September of 2021 by Bronte based Entrepreneur, Adam Agresta, with this being Adam’s fifth Business after having Startups in the Health and Fitness, Entertainment, Technology and Consulting industries.

One afternoon, in September of 2021, Adam was chatting with his brothers in a group chat on Instagram, and jokingly called his brother Charles an “Italian Pastizzi” due to the fact that Charles is Half Maltese and Half Italian.

That is when the lightbulb went off in Adam’s head:

Pasta Sauces inside of Pastry Items!

Adam’s initial idea was to fill Pastizzi’s (a Maltese savoury item) with Italian Sauces. After a few rounds of prototyping and testing it became clear that it wouldn’t work due to the limitation around the mass production of Pastizzi dough.

This resulted in a quick pivot to Puff/Shortcrust pastry. Adam then created 100 prototype pies, gave them to testers, and the feedback was resoundingly positive.

This led Adam to take the idea a little more seriously, and as a result, Nonna Tina’s was formally established on the 10th of November, 2021.

After a few months of testing, iterating and perfecting our product, we have finally arrived at a short range of Pies that we are hitting the Market with:

  • Beefy Bolognese
  • Chicken Boscaiola
  • Eggplant Parmigiana

Our recipes come directly from Nonna Tina’s cookbook. As one our customers recently said:

“It legitimately tastes like I am biting into a beautiful Italian pasta dish”
